Call of Duty Black Ops 7 takes the franchise to a new level and maintains the identity people would want. The gun action is sharp and gratifying, giving the thrust and smartness fans of the genre want. But not all new ideas fall out so well. There is roominess in some of the bigger maps and the freedom can sometimes create pacing problems. Some of the scenes resemble the soundtrack of the lackluster debut missions in Modern Warfare III, but the execution is much more sophisticated in BO7. Nevertheless, once the game clicks into the desired rhythm, agency and classic set-pieces merge to produce one of the most captivating campaigns that the series has provided in years.
The other layer of choice is the difficulty system, which has a huge impact on the experience of the campaign. In the simplest difficulty, the game is like a cinematic ride, the aim assist is high, the damage intake is low, and it is almost impossible to die. Frequent challenge is not too easy or too hard and most players will have the perfect mix of action and strategy. Hardened enhances the intelligence and destruction of the enemy thus requiring movement and cover. Veteran–the base-bludgeon–chastises even little errors.
In addition to the narrative, Black Ops 7 renews the neighborhood hype with the introduction of the old Race to Prestige. The Race is a marathon starting on launch, and players and streamers will grind round-the-clock to become the first to reach max Prestige.
